Hermanus – a truly unique and unforgettable destination.

Hermanus is built along the shores of Walker Bay near the southernmost tip of Africa.

The quaintness of the original village can still be seen in the renovated fishermen's cottages, many of which have been converted into shops and restaurants. The Old Harbour is a natural harbour and the area just above it is now known as the Waterfront Piazza. Bustling with superb restaurants and boutique shops, together with its spectacular views across Walker Bay, it is a must for all visitors to experience.

Hermanus hosts numerous markets offering everything from food, arts, crafts, collectables, antiques, and clothing to curios. On Saturday morning visitors can choose between the Country Market and the Food and Wine Market at Hermanuspietersfontein Wine Cellar.

Some of South Africa’s top Health Spas and Beauty Salons can be found in Hermanus. Serious art collectors, or newcomers to the world of art, will be able to enjoy the wide selection of paintings/sculptures and ceramics on view in the towns dozen or so first class Art Galleries.

Fernkloof Nature Reserve is traversed by more than 50 km’s of well-maintained walking trails as well as a mountain biking trail. These trails offer panoramic views of both Walker Bay and the Hemel and Aarde Valley.

Hoy’s Kopppie (a rocky outcrop in the middle of Hermanus) is a must, and is an easy walk for all, and it offers splendid views of the town and Walker Bay.

Our world famous Cliff Path stretches from Grotto Beach to the New Harbour and offers some of the best land based whale watching vantage points in the world. Our unique Southern Right whales can also be observed by boat, kayak or helicopter.

Hermanus is home to some of the most beautiful beaches in the Western Cape.

Shark Cage Diving as well as Marine Eco Boat Trips leave daily from Gansbaai(45 minutes from Hermanus).

The Hermanus Wine Route is a scenic 20 kilometre road that will take you to the front gates and tasting rooms of some of the most prominent wine brands in our country. This route (a ten minute drive from the centre of Hermanus) also allows visitors the opportunity to enjoy the beauty of the vineyard and Fynbos clad mountains that form the Hemel and Aarde Valley. The breath-taking views of the Atlantic Ocean comes as an extra bonus.

Hermanus is home to the very popular Hermanus Golf Club and the Arabella Golf Course is a twenty minute drive away.

For the adventurous Hermanus has no shortage of activities on offer: Sailing, boating and kayaking, scuba diving, horse riding, quad biking, tree top zip lining, river rafting, sand boarding and paragliding.

From Hermanus visitors can also enjoy day trips to L’ Agulhus (the most southern point of Africa). Stanford (an official historic village with houses dating back to 1860.) A mere 50 kilometres from Hermanus is Betty’s Bay – the home of the Jackass Penguins - and is a delight for all ages.
